Shakti(Sanskrit) "Power, energy," from the root shak, "to be able." The active power or manifest energy of Shiva that pervades all of existence. Its most refined aspect is ParaShakti, or Satchidananda, the pure consciousness and primal substratum of all form.
This pristine, divine energy unfolds as icha Shakti (the power of desire, will, love), kriya Shakti (the power of action) and jnana Shakti (the power of wisdom, knowing), represented as the three prongs of Shiva's trishula, or trident. From these arise the five powers of revealment, concealment, dissolution, preservation and creation.
In Shaiva Siddhanta, Shiva is All, and His divine energy, Shakti, is inseparable from Him. This unity is symbolized in the image of Ardhanarishvara, "half-female God."
In popular, Shakti is represented as female, and Shiva as male. In Hindu temples, art and mythology, they are everywhere seen as the divine couple.
This depiction has its source in the folk-narrative sections of the Puranas, where it is given elaborate expression. Shakti is personified in many forms as the consorts of the Gods. For example, the Goddesses Parvati, Lakshmi and Sarasvati are the respective mythological consorts of Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma. Philosophically, however, the caution is always made that God and God's energy are One, and the metaphor of the inseparable divine couple serves only to illustrate this Oneness.
Within the Shakta religion, the worship of the Goddess is paramount, in Her many fierce and benign forms. Shakti is the Divine Mother of manifest creation, visualized as a female form, and Shiva is specifically the Unmanifest Absolute. The fierce or black (asita) forms of the Goddess include Kali, Durga, Chandi, Chamundi, Bhadrakali and Bhairavi. The benign or white (sita) forms include Uma, Gauri, Ambika, Parvati, Maheshvari, Lalita and Annapurna. As Rajarajeshvari ("divine queen of kings"). She is the presiding Deity of the Sri Chakra yantra. She is also worshiped as the ten Mahavidyas, manifestations of the highest knowledge - Kali, Tara, Shodashi, Bhuvaneshvari, Chinnamasta, Bhairavi, Dhumavati, Bagata, Matangi and Kamala. While some Shaktas view these as individual beings, most revere them as manifestations of the singular Devi.
In the Yoga mysticism of all traditions, divine energy, Shakti, is experienced within the human body in three aspects:
1) the feminine force, ida Shakti,
2) the masculine force, pingala Shakti, and
3) the pure androgynous force, kundalini Shakti, that flows through the sushumna nadi. Shakti is most easily experienced by devotees as the sublime, bliss-inspiring energy that emanates from a holy person or sanctified Hindu temple.
"I heard my name being called. As I turned I saw a sadhu approaching me. ' You have been threatened', he said. Before I could reply he continued 'There are hidden enemies who wornt hesitate to kill. Come here tomorrow night.' I returned to the place the next night to fine the Sadhu seated before a fire. He asked me to join him and for the next two hours he accomplished some ritual. After the Mantra recital he told me that the Goddess Dhoomavati would now protect me.
The very next day two men armed with guns rushed into my office. However as soon as they faced me terror swam over their facial features and to my surprise, they turned and ran as if for their lives.
Amazed, I went in search of the sadhu and related the event to him. 'Ma sure terrified them', he said laughing boisterously . Then he added - ' My work is done. Thank your Gurudev for sending me here !, with this he disappeared , leaving me all the more bewildered. I sure had a Guru and he had helped me several times but this time he had saved me from sure death.
These are the words of one of Gurudev's disciples, who got a chance to witness the power of Goddess Dhoomavati who is a terror for one enemies. Even ghosts and evil spirits dare not touch her Sadhak. She drives away all painful influences like diseases and illnesses. The gaze of the Sadhak become so powerful that even the staunchest enemy quails in his presence. The Goddess protects her Sadhak throughout life from the worst of calamities.
Dhumavati is the smoky form of Shakti. She is also known as the eternal widow, the Shakti without Shiva. She is ugly and also called Alakshmi, the one who is without Laxmi or radiance.
Dhumavati is the Divine Goddess at the time of the deluge, when the Earth is under water. While being ugly and fearsome, she is blessing with her right hand those who can still see the Divine Mother in her. The black crow on her flag is the symbol of dark forces and black magic.

The upasana of Dhumavai Devi is made during the night. The place for upasana is cemetry, where Sadhaka should perform puja with naked body except undergarments or it should be a lonely place.
Dhumavati Devi is not commonly known. She has fat body, eyes are fierce, wears dirty clothes, has dry hairs. Due to old age has bend in her spinal chord. A Sadhak is to perform one lac japa on the 14th day of lunar phase during Krishna Prakash (During Nights) in solitude, or in the cremation ground or in the forest by observing fast and remaining silent the whole day and night.
